About

Not sure how to start your research project? No worries! The remainder of this guide will get you started!

Topic Selection

Choosing a topic can be a little daunting. But no worries, you don't have to pick one and stick with it! You'll find that your topics or research questions tend to change as you delve deeper. To get you started, however, it can be helpful to ask yourselves these questions:

  • What topics in this course are most relevant to my overall interests?
  • Which units have I enjoyed the most?
  • What is something I wish we had discussed more in-depth during class? Is there a topic we didn't get to discuss in class?

Brainstorming

When starting your research, you may want to start with broad, general topics. Maybe you know you want to write about race and medical care but aren't sure how to narrow it down. That's okay! You could brainstorm and come up with a mindmap that may help you narrow it down, OR you could start doing preliminary searches on Google or multidisciplinary databases. Check out our example mindmap and database suggestions below!
